TEAM GB VS. TEAM BA

What would win in race, a boat or a plane?! It wasn’t a question we’d pondered before but our client British Airways raised it and we couldn’t stop thinking about it… We just had to find out the answer!

To celebrate raising more than £27 million for Comic Relief through their charity Flying Start, British Airways tasked Starstruck with the ultimate challenge; capturing Team GB’s Rowing Team in a race along Royal Albert Dock against a British Airways aircraft taking off from London City Airport!

A huge undertaking for the rowers – coached and cheered on by five-time gold medalist Sir Steve Redgrave – and one almighty production for Starstruck.

This big scale film wouldn’t have ‘landed’ right for Comic Relief without a brilliantly funny double-act at the centre of the adventure. Enter Rylan and Alison Hammond who layered in wonderful elements of chaos and humour to the edge-of-your-seat action.

Using five different camera crews dotted around various locations both air and dockside, every angle of this spectacle was captured in real time, in addition to the sketch elements of the piece, shot multi-camera at London City’s check-in area.

The content from our multiple crews gave our post team extensive coverage ready for an action-packed, high octane edit that was turned around within 48 hours ready for its Comic Relief transmission on BBC One.

In addition to the television broadcast, Starstruck created a suite of social assets that was seeded out across BA and Comic Relief’s social platforms, plus an EPK style package of highlight clips, interview sound-bites and b-roll selects for news outlets covering the story.
